Correctly pronounced 'EEM-YOU' not 'EMM-MOO'! The Emu is Australia's largest native bird.

Are they good tempered or bad tempered? I'd like to know a bit more about them. This fellow looks a bit ticked off. Keep up the good work! :-)

They are kind of naughty but totally harmless. What they do is, they charge up to you....often 10 at a time....and then stare straight in your eyes. They are really big, so if you didn't know, it would be quite intimidating. They are actually big softies! Tickle them on the bum and they run for the hills really fast. And interestingly like kangaroos, they can't walk backwards.

Many years ago my husband and I adopted three 3 month old hatchlings. They were the sweetest birds (except when they pecked my earrings off). They loved to run around in their yard and play in their baby pool. Because we couldn't find a Veterinarian willing to give them their shots, they had to go live at the zoo.

Great in-your-face shot. I've been pronouncing it "EE-MOO" my whole life & have heard many others pronouncing it the same way. I accept the fact that, as an Australian, your pronunciation is probably the right one, but I'm probably going to stubbornly continue saying it incorrectly...

What a fabulous shot hubby and I have gone up to Solvang California and they have farms of these lovely creatures I did find them a little over active(shall I put it that way lol and thank you for commenting on my Mammoth photo
