Description


For the adjudication of water rights in Arizona the courts need to know three things when claiming a water right. What is the source (points of diversion), how is it being conveyed, and where is it being used (place of use). The source could be a spring (surface water), a well (usually groundwater but could be surface water), or in-stream pumps (surface water). These are five in-stream pumps that pump surface water from the Gila River below the breached Gillespie Dam into the Gila Bend Canal which conveys the water 20, 30 or more miles downstream to be used by ranches in Gila Bend to irrigate fields.
