again, you create all kinds of pieces which feel like intimate keepsakes, small works of art which, upon close view, reveal all kinds of detail and worlds inside. They're often glimpsed into whole 'universes', which seem miniaturized at first, but which are actually quite full and broad when we look closely. You have what appears to be one of those shake-snow-balls (I have no idea what they're called!), those old glass balls that one shakes, and they 'snow'. It has a fairy tale winter scene inside, with purples and yellows brushed throughout the beautiful pale blues and whites. It has a bit of Currier and Ives in it, though your scene there is more fleece-like, 'fluffier' if I can use that word. It almost feels made of confections...The sky has all kinds of blues, and they don't render up their strongest light...rather, they hold it, and let it do what it does, spreading and morphing across the surface, quietly. (In only a few points does its quietness burst into whites. This is an inward and quiet scene, and peaceful.) The angel also has a 19th C feel---actually, she could be from even earlier centuries, esp in the folds of her gown. And she holds forth another glass sphere...The piece is quietly magical and peaceful, filled with that winter light one sees in late winter days when the light hasn't given up its luster yet (to the night), and radiates a quiet, whispering aura...real northern light in winter. Quite magical and peace-giving, Barb. These mixed media pieces are all beautifully crafted worlds-within-worlds.
I know I've only commented on 3 images, but I'm tired and must stop. (Not tired from your work! Just from me...) But I was here about 20 minutes or so, so I did give them time. Not hard to do that, btw---one sinks into these pieces, and wants them all to oneself, because they're so intimate and packed....I again hope you're feeling a little better, after your painful loss. And I hope the spring is bringing light and uplift to your life, as you continue to care for your sick mother. It's a big commitment, I know. I wish you strength and inner peace. I'll be back to catch up to the rest soon...a sweet rest of april to you (if it ever gets warm!)
