Description

____________________________________________ Alnilam (Epsilon Orionis), is the 30th brightest star in the sky (and the 4th brightest in Orion). she is a super blue giant, she is one of the brightest stars known. She is the middle star in Orion's belt. Alnilam is also one of the 57 stars used in astronomical navigation. For observers located near the equator, it is highest in the sky on December 15 around midnight. This star should move to Supergiant Red stage and explode in Supernova it is surrounded by a molecular cloud, NGC 1990, which it illuminates to form a reflection nebula. Its stellar winds can reach 2000 km / s which causes mass losses 20 million times higher than those suffered by the Sun. It has an apparent magnitude of 1.69 and an absolute magnitude of -6.38 (30,000 times the brightness of the Sun). It is a blue giant B0 type, a companion of magnitude 11 is listed. The system is 2000 light years away. _____________________________________________
