Description

Designed to control navigation on the estuary, the citadel is completed by Fort Paté on Île Paté and Fort Médoc on the opposite bank of the Gironde. Classified as an historic monument on 11 May 20091, it is also one of the twelve sites included in the Vauban Major Sites Network and is therefore included on the UNESCO World Heritage List on 7 July 2008. It has been classified as a major site in Aquitaine since December 20, 2010.

L'architecture de cette citadelle me fait penser au fort de Brouage que j'ai visité. La "patte" de Vauban! Superbe vue, excellente capture, Mo!

On peut dire que Vauban a laissé des traces de son passage sur le pourtour de la France, heureusement que maintenant on fait ce qu'il faut pour conserver ce patrimoine !!
