Description

One day I came across this roadblock on my late afternoon drive. Animals have right of way (or right of sleeping in the road) and should never be disturbed. Needless to say I have spent quite some time with these lionesses until more cars left and I could safely negotiate my way past them without disturbing them. There were 6 lionesses and two teenage cubs in this pride. (the other 2 were out of sight) I'm sure the male was hiding in the bushes somewhere. Unfortunately they were lying in deep shadow which is not ideal for photography but I wanted to share the experience with you!

what a sight to come across, not something we would ever encounter on our roads, even if we were lucky enough to host such wonderful creatures as these.

Beautiful capture Carin.
At first I was frightened when I looked at the preview picture, because I thought the lions were dead. Fortunately, the lions only sleep peacefully.

When I first came across this photo I thought these creatures were dead, probably from ambush. Anyway, terrific capture despite the shadows.

On a hot day any patch of shade will do. When I met my lions the adults were under the bushes. The young ones were lying in the sun gradually cooking.
