Description
Erected by the religious of Sainte Croix de Talmont during the 11th century, the priory was looted during the Wars of Religion, restored by Richelieu, transformed into a fort, a guard house and a powder magazine from the end of the 18th to the end of the 19th century.
It was completely renovated in 2004.
Dominating the entrance to the port and protected by two long jetties built in the 18th century, the priory flanked by seven 18th century cannons offers a superb view over the bay.
Next to the Priory is the Memorial of the Peris at Sea, a monument dedicated to the disappeared at sea.
