Description

This is a US Navy 'Blue Angel' McDonnel Douglas F/A-18 'Hornet' on the Luke AFB flight line. On March 17 and 18, 2018 the United States Navy's 'Blue Angels' aerobatic flight demonstration squadron flying McDonnel Douglas F/A 18 'Hornets' like the one shown in this picture, performed for the public. This always draws huge crowds. The last time the 'Blue Angels' performed at Luke was in 1992. Every other year the United States Air Force 'Thunderbirds' perform at Luke. They perform a similar routine, but there are two differences between the two teams, other than one is Navy and the other Air Force. The Air Force 'Thunderbirds' use General Dynamic F-16 'Fighting Falcons' and the Navy uses McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 'Hornets, The other difference is that the F-16s the Air Force uses are flown by Air Force pilots. The F/A-18s the Navy uses are flown by Navy or Marine aviators. Pilots take off from and land on runways, 5,6, 9, 10,000-ft long or longer. Navy and Marine aviators take off from and land on carrier decks, much, much shorter, and very seldom not heaving in seas. I personally and many of my buddies like the .Blue Angels' performance better - they fly a tighter formation. This picture, with Jim posing, was taken on 16 March 2018, Sig...

It's a beautiful plane. I've seen the Thunderbirds perform several times (as well as fly over my house), but I've never caught a performance of the Blue Angels.
