Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Two excellent images. One from the 1920s and one from the 19th century. Wonderful post work.

I see you view selfies like I do - necessary at rare times but then this is a wonderful capture and your other just knocked it out of the park

LOL I wouldn't want to meet you in a dark alley! Very foreboding!!! At work we have to have these government licenses which basically say you are safe to work with children. It involves police checks etc. Anyway, one of the rules when you get your ID card is that you CAN'T smile in the photo. We all end up looking like murderous pedophiles...especially me!

god I love this. And the flickr one is nearly regal---added to by your burnt-gold-sepia tone. I'm back for my usual 2-3 day stint, with limited numbers of comments, which are always a pain since I have a ton to say on everything here. But I gotta choose, so I start with this beauty because I loved it the minute it went up. Deep eyes and gaze, your seriousness is arresting, the highlights on your earrings and either blouse, scarf or some outer garment (hard to tell from the photo) makes beautiful contrast to all the dark. And your willingness to capture yourself without editorialization makes your self portraits a pleasure to view. They're honest and they're powerful. Terrific shot, Andrea, a wonderful serious and reflective self portrait. As is the flickr. And the black and white, here, is perfect.
(Can you imagine going through the Rijksmuseum, and seeing, next to Rembrandt self portrait after self portrait: "Selfie 22," "Selfie with Fruit," "Selfie with iPad"...)
