Description

Isle of the Dead is an island adjacent to Port Arthur, Tasmania. It was the destination for all who died inside the prison. Of the 1646 graves recorded to exist there, only 180, those of prison staff and military personnel, are marked. Burying the prisoners without naming them was their final punishment. Port Arthur men's prison is in the background toward the right.
