Description

This is part of a herd of Blue Wildebeest coming in to have a drink. It is very interesting to watch them as they have a very specific hierarchy in which they drink water with the babies being stone last. Blue Wildebeest are the least well adapted to this arid environment and need to drink water every two to three days in order to survive. In times of drought, when both food and water are in short supply, the Blue Wildebeest are usually the first species to show deterioration in condition or mortalities. This is linked to the fact that their natural migratory routes have been cut off by country borders and farming fences.

Also known as the Lion's Movable Feast. I've always had sympathy for these creatures since they seem to have a harder time than the other animals. An excellent capture. One of our zoos had two of them they named Weather and Sports. Then they advertised the zoo by saying "Come see our Gnus, Weather and Sports." American humor, what are you going to do?

Stellar POV on this migratory herd, Carin. They sure look skinny. Incidentally, I've been cut off from posting any photos on Renderosity as of yesterday. My gallery comes up okay, but minus any button or feature to press so I can add a photo or two.
