(you gotta imagine what it's like for 2D artists to read credits for mixed media pieces: Some of yours read like passages from English novels in double-speak, like the Jabberwocky stuff from LCarrol: "silviap, rats: moonglowlily". Imagine someone who never worked with other artist's creations, reading that! What a phrase! (Or "mushrooms: susannp, book: free, birds: selunia"---if I were new to this, I'd think, "what??????? is she serious?????") Anyway, we move from one of your regal and bejeweled fractals into another of your scenes from a mysterious story, with a woman who appears to have a deep past with experiences we can only guess at; she's carrying a book, and we wonder what book it is; she has a look like she's glanced over to us even though she has something completely else on her mind; her outfit suggest the 19th C; she has a hood which makes her even more mysterious; and her purples, along with the mists---and that striking blue-black lipstick (and eye makeup)---make her even more mysterious. She, along with some of the other characters your create, is someone who stepped out of the ages. And in the background, a graveyard. (What the Renaissance used to call "churchyards," as they had graves in churches. ((I can't help but think of the wild and gruesome quote, "...when churchyards yawn, and hell itself breathes out contagion to this world..." Hamlet.) (The image is of the plague: There was plague in Shakespeare's time, though nowhere near the intensity of the previous centuries; nevertheless, his Hamlet is conjuring churchyards opening up their graves at midnight, and spewing all the hell and contagion of the plague into the world---a lovely image, I know, not something for dinner table conversation. But Hamlet is trying to make himself as cruel and sinister as he can be, so he can confront his mother for her terrible deeds, so he conjures hellish images of graveyards and disease...Now I know that's not what you're portraying, but it just shows you the potency of graveyards in so much folklore and literature...) (Hamlet goes on: "Now could I drink hot blood, and do such bitter business as the day would quake to look on"...he's basically becoming a vampire now---he wasn't the easiest dude to have around, believe me; and he does it all to make himself 'cruel' for his confrontation. All that comes out of a graveyard image...)
Anyway, I love the misty, amorphous feeling of the background, contrasted w/ this woman's so 'present' appearance. And a moon way back there, with birds and branches...the mysteries of life all around. Another beautiful piece of mystery from you. You must have whole novels and folklores in you, to put out these pieces in between your fractals and other designs (and the difficulties of your day to day). Beautiful.
Barb, I have to stop now, and I want to comment on your piece for steve, so I'll do that and I'll come back for the rest in the next day or two. I'm going to get them all no matter what, this time! Just know that these two comments took me 20 minutes (I'm slow!), so I do give time to your work, as it's worth it. I'll go to your dedi now...
