Like the dramatic composition and the colors. Two things come to mind (my mind, anyways): if the barren land is his bald head, this would be a cool pun (or as the best wife of all says to me - often - "an empty barn needs no roof..".) But more seriously: I think the tip of the spear could have made it in full onto the scene and if the spear was tilted a bit forward, it would even more guide the eye to the hero. Justsaying. None the less a great render & like; as Angelfire999 said: would have made a great poster.
