well here I am back in mid april...it's always hard when I come back for only 2 or 3 days, and I have to choose but a few pics to comment on, because I see everything of yours and I want to write on them all. I pick this amongst your Utah shots, only because it's representative: They've all been gorgeous. You got such layers here, the background is awash in bluish tints, and it's softened by atmosphere. The ridge about halfway up the shot is gorgeous, cutting through on a diagonal. The front formations are gorgeous, in a mix of that deep reddish stone, deep shadow, and bright bleaching light so typical of that part of the country. And the sky---the upper quarter of the shot---is a gentle blue, picking up all the shadows and making the shot feel suspended from the sky. Beautiful work Richard, and typical of how you handle these grand landscapes: You get grandiosity, yet at the same time a sense of delicacy and intimacy. I'm getting a pro camera this year (probably the next generation of yours), and I hope to do 1/20th of the quality you do, when I get it. Beautiful work as always.
