Description

For Earthbound: the Quantum Grail. Jimmy Worthy, age 15, as he sets out on his spirit quest. Jimmy is a member of the small Tailacoche tribe in Oregon. In the story I'm writing, he's also the unwitting subject of the "Handsome Jimmy says ..." meme after his little sister posted a picture of him in a bathing suit online. Michael 4, Daz Studio, background made in Bryce, postwork in Photoshop. For the lighting, I was going for the sort of snapshot look you could get with a picture taken on your phone. I may do a more formal portrait of him later, but I'm sort of going through a rebellious phase. I see so many renders where everybody's trying to get studio-perfect lighting and hyper-realistic images that just look overly posed. So I'm trying out my theory of deliberate imperfections: off lighting, shadows, unintended expressions, eyes closed, unadjusted colors, etc. Basically, I'm putting in "mistakes" to see if I can come up with images that are more believable. It sort of doubles my workload, because I'm also doing comic-style images at the same time, which require better lighting, clear images, etc. I guess I'm just a glutton for punishment.
