another sterling rose from you, with beautiful folds and furrows, and light and shadow. And the green, as always, makes a beautiful contrast. I've noticed that you crop a certain number of your roses for very close viewing: The roses, in these cases, fill up the frame. That's a fine choice, because it allows them to show off their remarkable opulence. (And, of course, you leave nearly identical space on left and right, and top and bottom: Ie, there's balance in these tight crops.) Beautiful light in this, yet another rose-beauty in this incredibly enduring series.
I appreciate your comments mentioning your appendicitis years back, and what it was like before antibiotics. My great grandfather died of a ruptured appendix---this of course was well before yours, but he too had no antibiotics. My grandfather was his son; and he remembered his dad's passing all his life...My great-grandfather's father was a cantor, and had just sung the entire Kol Nidre service in terrible abdominal pain. He was such a devoted cantor, he didn't give a passing thought to staying home for "mere abdominal pain," as he put it. Overnight, he was in terrible pain; and, by morning---despite medical emergency measures---he passed away. So I really understand what you wrote about.
You were a lucky man to get through appendicitis without sepsis. My gall bladder was the size of a 16 inch softball when they removed it; but luckily gall bladders don't pose the same risks as ruptured appendixes. However, mine was gangrene, so it was a problem. I'm glad you got through your appendicitis with flying colors: You're absolutely right about how deadly it can be. It sounds like Steve's was in that territory...
