I have just come in from enjoying the bonfire celebrating Valborg's mass (or saint Valpurga, in German) in the local park. This photo shows the big pile of sticks which comprise the fuel for the fire. It's drizzling, not unusual for the occasion! The pile of sticks is well over 3 meters high.
Valborg / St. Valpurga was an abbess in Germany who came to be venerated in the Scandinavian - Baltic regions of Europe.
For more information check the Swedish Local. It gives a good background for the celebration. See - https://www.thelocal.se/20110429/3671
(-Animal rights activists don't like this tradition (or any other fire tradition), claiming the fire roasts small animals (hedge hogs, squirrels, pets, etc.) alive. Nobody has yet seen a small animal stay in a burning pile of sticks - they get out FAST!-)

Oh, I love a good bonfire! Get out the marshmallows and hot dogs!
Yeah, critters don't stick around for long when things start burning around them.
