Description
Captured back on 4/4/09, at the Planes of Fame Air Museum in Chino, California.
The Mitsubishi A6M "Zero" was a long-range fighter aircraft manufactured by Mitsubishi Aircraft Company, a part of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, and operated by the Imperial Japanese Navy from 1940 to 1945. The A6M was designated as the Mitsubishi Navy Type 0 carrier fighter, or the Mitsubishi A6M Rei-sen. The A6M was usually referred to by its pilots as the "Reisen" (zero fighter), "0" being the last digit of the imperial year 2600 (1940) when it entered service with the Imperial Navy. The official Allied reporting name was "Zeke", although the use of the name "Zero" was later adopted by the Allies as well. The Zero was considered the most capable carrier-based fighter in the world when it was introduced early in World War II, combining excellent maneuverability and very long range. The Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service (IJNAS) also frequently used it as a land-based fighter.

boy, the Japanese sure knew how to color their fighter planes. These are amazing looking creatures. I know they signaled terror to the allies below (you were there, I'm imagine you went through this many times); but in a museum, they're stunning. You got sweet light in both, and great light in the cabin, in one, and on the front of the plane, in two. And the space is looming and beautiful, with all those linear sweeps. A very pleasing set of captures, even if they were enemy planes. I can't get over the multi tones!

A lot of attention went into the restoration of those beauties.

Yes, they are beautiful little mashines. Just pitty they were used for war.

I wonder if the different colors were to assist in identifying planes from different units? Good photo and nice job describing the planes. Keep up the good work! :-)

Great shot of the Zero, my friend! Beautifully restored bit of history.
And as a bonus, the beautiful P-61 Black Widow model next to it. Love the P-61!
