Your once in a blue moon science lesson, captured back on 10/13/07.
Beading of rain water on a waxy surface, such as a leaf, will create surface tension. Water adheres weakly to wax and strongly to itself, so water clusters into drops. Surface tension gives them their near-spherical shape, because a sphere has the smallest possible surface area to volume ratio.

great description of the surface tension of water. Like Helle says, this sight wouldn't be nearly as common today. Great shots of the water drops---and a few are stark white. Their contrast with the broad hard lives is striking, as is the red trim around the leaves and on the stems. Love how you captured these leaves 'glued' to those hard waxy surfaces...
