Description

When I had a boat (1957), Mercury's largest outboard motor was a 50 HP model. I could only afford a 20 HP model but you could still waterski behind the boat with that motor. The other day as we walked through the Friday Harbor Marina, I saw this huge 250 HP model (and there are still bigger ones). Since this is a fishing boat the smaller motor is used for slow, quiet trolling. Topaz: Cracked Fresco (just for fun)

We skied behind 25 hp...not like today with bass boats boasting outboards like skyscrapers on the rear! Nice shot and memory jogger!

A fun shot, Bill. Great comparison of the two motors. The little one looks like a toy next to that behemoth.

I have never skied or even had a boat. even now, my garage is a two car, but with a boat inside it would be a tight squeeze to get and out of the 4Runner

Good title, that's a lot of horses for an outboard.

thanks for explaining the 2 motors, I've never boated so I wouldn't have known. As for the pic, I love it as a visual as well as as a boat photo. I love the contrast of that heaveeee motor section, like a big monster glued to the back who's gonna take over the boat once it's out to sea. (Like, "Jack---you wanna go back there and kill that thing before it eats us all???") And how it contrasts with all that white. And I love your cracked paint texture---topaz? (are you becoming a topaz addict too? I'm warning you, it takes months and lots of rehabilitation to get off that stuff!) And the water is almost like metal, as a result: I really like your visuals here. And the crop, which cuts off the boat and makes this seem even more of an abstract. Love the image...and I can't help but think (naivete warning!): Wouldn't those engines sink this thing? Shows you what I know, but they really do look like they're preying on the poor boat...

Or Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. Good choice on the Topaz filter and composition. I'm a wind and sail man myself but high speed can be a real trip.
