Description
Captured 5/20/18, while taking my usual morning walk.
My son says the individual is female, I can't tell one way or another. Probably a host of reasons why this occurs. I assume a transient, homeless, unemployed, perhaps a drug addict, alcoholic, mentally ill, maybe something as simple as a runaway teenager, you name it. Actually, there are some who prefer to live this way. From my own experience, there are lots of weirdos out there, so I don't mess with any of them.

A powerful photo, my friend.
there is plenty of help available for these unfortunate folks, if they'll take advantage of it.

I agree with your son; I also thing it's a young woman. A very sad foto. I see this too often.

Great capture, and it's very sad that this person either couldn't or wouldn't get help.

Definitely female.

well, homeless people getting help isn't as easy as it appears...some shelters are awful, in part because some are terribly kept, in part because others are, but they have some residents who attack, steal, etc...they have as many varieties of people as one finds in the city at large. I see people like this woman all over Chicago---and yes, I think she's a woman. Some do want to be here, as their home lives may have been awful (physical abuse, and there are always a number of homeless people who've been sexually abused); in some cases they just can't adjust to society, period. (Emotional, drugs, etc.) After a while, they lose their sense of self-consciousness, and don't care who sees them. Some others, however, are painfully self-conscious, and they die a thousand deaths that anyone can see them. (Some live under viaducts, in the deep caverns of subways, etc, so as not to be seen---but also for shelter and warmth, esp important in cold cities; and cool, in hot cities---hidden-places are cooler than outside, in summer. In any case, a really striking photo of a homeless woman, Harry, made all the more striking by that art deco numbering and the once-fine stone floor. With her head hidden, the shot has real poignance. A fine piece of journalism from you.
Harry, let me wish you a solemn and grace-filled Memorial Day, and may I give you, once more, my deep gratitude for all you did and went through, way back, in your service to the country. I remain forever grateful. And though I'm a day early (I won't be here tomorrow), accept it for all year, and every year. We all should remember all of you always. I wish you a peaceful day of remembrance...

Another Day in Paradise
She calls out to the man on the street
"Sir, can you help me?
It's cold and I've nowhere to sleep
Is there somewhere you can tell me?"
He walks on, doesn't look back
He pretends he can't hear her
He starts to whistle as he crosses the street
She's embarrassed to be there
Oh, think twice, it's just another day for
For you and me in paradise
Oh, think twice, it's just another day
For you, you and me in paradise
Just think about it
