Description

The lands are those of the lords of Brézé since the xie century. The first lords of Brézé made numerous donations to the nearby Abbaye de Fontevraud. Among these lords of Brézé, we know Louis de Brézé who married Diane de Saint-Vallier known as Diane de Poitiers. In 1448, Gilles de Maillé Brézé obtained permission from King René to fortify the castle and had ditches dug. The renaissance Italian style castle and outbuildings were rebuilt in the early 16th century by Arthur de Maillé
