L'expression malle-poste apparaît pour la première fois, semble-t-il, en 1793 dans un décret de la convention proposant ainsi la mise en circulation de voitures spécialement conçues pour transporter à la fois les dépêches, le courrier et quelques voyageurs.
The expression trunk mail appears for the first time, it seems, in 1793 in a decree of the convention thus proposing the putting into circulation of cars specially designed to transport at the same time the dispatches, the mail and some passengers.
