No, it is not "1984"-like, but... DOLL BOT Anybody can purchase, now, a doll "android,” also known as "sex robot.” An example is the Harmony robot. How Harmony compares with Slavebot : my futuristic android that I am describing in my series? Harmony is the trademark of Realdoll, an American company; Slavebot is the trademark of Maiubot, a fictional Chinese company. Harmony is available now, Slavebot would be available in the 2030s and is fictional for now. Both are very female-human-looking with soft skin. Both can maintain some conversation, can express emotion, can move their eyes and their mouth, can detect human faces and can even recognize their owner. Cost for a fully equipped Harmony : about 15K; cost for a Slavebot : about 200K. Both have a "mood feature"; in a few words, it means that the more the android has "positive" interactions with her owner, the more she shows a "happy" expression. I will describe that feature in more details, in another post. However, there are huge differences between a Slavebot android and a Harmony android. Harmony can move her head, that is all. She cannot move herself; the owner has to pose her manually the same way a child poses an action figure toy. Her voice is from a speaker within her mouth, and the movement of the mouth is only for talk simulation. She has very limited sense of touch : a few strategic points on her skin. I suspect that her artificial intelligence is "Siri-like"; I mean that it is located in the internet "cloud,” not within her body. Because of that, I will never confide my craziest fantasies to her; it is like confiding our deepest thoughts to Facebook. Having these limitations, a doll "android" is expected to be much less expensive than a companion android, because it fills a more specific need; that makes sense : different prices, different markets.
