Description

....nothing worried you! Not cold water, waves, sand between one's toes or getting in trouble for catching a cold and dropping sand all through your parent's car on the way back from the beach! Life was simple and glorious!

I was thinking about this just the other day. It was fun to be a kid.

I remember it well my friend. Early 1970's and family trips down to the coast at Margate. Happy carefree days.

OH yes, I sure remember that feeling. I also remember when I did something really dangerous. Just about 8-10 kilometers from here is the inner bay. From there the water is very low, so we kids could walk far, before it could reach the waist. As a little girl 4 years old we borrowed a tiny summer cottage from my Uncle near the bay. And of course my parents, my two older brothers and I were often at the beach. One day I wanted to see how far I could go, before it would reach my mouth, so I walked slowly farther and farther till I walked on my toe nails and just, when I could feel the water on my jaw, I looked back and saw my two older brothers running toward me screaming my name. Then I realized, that maybe this wasnt the best idea and I began going back. I was so close to death without knowing. A little hole in the sand botton, could have killed me. An hour later, my father did something to me, that gave me deep respect for the water ever since. He took my legs so I fell down under the water for a second, which I had never tried before. I got so angry with him, but later I understood, why he did it. Since that day, I knew better than doing stupid experiments in the water. But I still loved playing there. ;-)

Thanks for sharing this fun, loving, and lively photo.

Our home is in the middle of the Canadian Provinces.

The beaches open up the first weekend of May while the water is still very cold. 😊

They close the first weekend of September when the water is starting to get cold, waiting for winter.

However we have seen a few tubers on the river out the backyard two weekends in a row this year.

as a child we never had any trips, except going to downtown on a raggedy old city bus.

I can still relate to your words and the joy children can have
