For a first Bryce pic, it's rather successful ! Nice job !

beautiful!

Good stuff! Is it me though, or is the boat kind of too small compared to the lighthouse?
BillyM67
Wivelrod- I thought the same thing before posting it, but I was trying to give a sense of distance, but don't have time to fix it. The ship should have been a bit bigger, because of the size they were, but, like I said, no time. I am working on my first model, a castle, and it is taking up all my time. Post soon! Thanks.

i like it very much, especially the snow :) But i think that there s something you could improve. The ship is too small, compare it with the lighthouse. But anyhow, great job

really cold atmosphere. very good work. but i think the ship looks like a toy.
BillyM67
Nexxon- Again, think that is because of the size issue. I did a second render at 10"x7.5" at 300 dpi and it looks very real. I textured it piece by piece so that I could use it in future pieces, at any distance, without having to re-texture it. With all the comments about it being too small, I think I will have to do a re-post. :)

It's an excellent iamge for the first. But yes, ou would have of to make a bigger boat. Very good departure in the 3D and welcome on this great site:)

Excellent for a first post. In fact, it's so good I won't mind giving you a few "pointers"! ;)
First off, yes, the ship looks a bit small. The mountain in the background is well coloured with good ambience, but its shape isn't up to much. It's pretty ugly, as mountains go. The trees look a bit lost and lonely. Try stuffing more trees behind the lighthouse.
And what about some soft shadows? The sharpness of the foreground shadows is at odds with the nice blending in the rest of the image. Finally, your water texture is too regular. Try mixing 2 or 3 bump channels for a more realistic effect.
Keep up the good work!

Your first 3D pic ? You are a real artist , and I can't wait to see your future work. Very nice colors and depth of field sensation !

Tuttle, and everyone else, thank you very much for your comments and feedback!
Vintage
good work indeed for your first post. I shudder when I think of mine! hahaha I myself built a castle model from scratch so I know what you are going through. I also have a scale problem with things, but eventually you find ways around it. =)
BillyM67
Vintage- Yes, Bryce is not the easiest app to build in, but I am finding that I really enjoy it. It's like building a regular model, which I enjoy doing, but without being limited to what comes in the box. :) Scale has been an issue, but I recently imported a figure to have as a basis to go by and I am addressing that now. Hopefully I will have a piece posted soon with the finished model. Thanks for you comments!

As a general statement I would like to add, if I may, that having just discovered 3D apps and this online community about two or three months ago, I have been happily surprised. All of the artists that I have had a chance to interact with have been great. Whether it be just general communication, the sharing of ideas or giving advice, all have been open, honest and mature. A big surprise for me compared to other "surfing" experiences I've had. I believe that these types of communities (Renderosity, 3D Commune, etc.) show just how great the net can be, and I am proud to be a small part of it. Take care one and all, and keep up the great work!
