The Elizabethans were the best but you forgot one of his best.

“Why, thou clay brained guts, thou knotty pated fool, thou whoreson obscene greasy tallow catch!” From Henry IV, Part 1

I'm gonna try to leave a few comments in the next week (it'll be slow and scant, but I'll try.) While I'll do a couple of your other gems, I had to comment on this now! Shakespeare had the best insults in the English language, bar none; and he did it without any 'swear words'. He made the suckers up. One of my favorite scenes is Queen Margaret in Richard III, where she just comes down one day, and insults the hell out of everyone---including Richard, the Queen, you name it---and then goes upstairs to finish a crossword puzzle or whatever. (She calls richard a "poisonous bunchbacked toad"---ya can't beat that. You have one of her insults, above.) You got a whole slew of his best here, and I think it's great that you have this collection! And Mark added one from Henry IV, I---Prince Hal in one of his many shots at Falstaff, where Falstaff answers, "are you mad?" (No, just reeeeeallllly insulting, Sir J!) Ok, so here's my favorite one-shot from, of all plays, King Lear---not known for its 'light touch. It's Kent, who, in disguise as a common man, gets off a beauty on "Oswald". Memorize this: I'm sure you know some blokes who deserve it. I love this upload: I'll comment on a few more later, but this stopped me in my tracks!

(Kent calls Oswald) "A knave, a rascal, an eater of broken meats; a base, proud, shallow, beggarly, three-suited, hundred-pound, filthy, worsted-stocking knave; a lily-livered, action-taking knave; a whoreson, glass-gazing, super-serviceable finical rogue; one-trunk-inheriting slave; one that wouldst be a bawd in way of good service; and art nothing but the composition of a knave, beggar, coward, pander, and the son and heir of a mongrel bitch; one whom I will beat into clamorous whining if thou deniest the least syllable of thy addition."

(Oswald should reply: "Tell us what you really think, K !" In Act I, Lear says the famous, "Peace, Kent./Come not between the dragon and his wrath." Kent later shows he can hold his own with anyone, incl Lear...)

I never really 'got' Shakespeare! I pretended in school that I did....but I didn't! I can't appreciate him to this day.....

Cannot say he does much for me but having never read him, how can I really tell?

my favorite in this list is "thou smell of mountain goat!" and unfortunately I've been around some people that do smell that bad..
