Description

Two stories of the eleventh century tell that a monk of Conques, Aronisde, spent ten years in Agen to lull the mistrust of the population and, one evening of Epiphany, stole the relics of Sainte-Foy, a child martyr, in the church Sainte-Foy d'Agen which he had custody (pious larcin known as the modest name of "stealthy translation"). After a miraculous journey, he brings the relics back to his Conques abbey where they are solemnly welcomed. Around 900, the whole body of Foy is placed in a shrine. The miracles obtained at the invocation of the relics quickly intensify the pilgrimage to Conques, so that the abbot Étienne built in the middle of the tenth century a larger basilica with three naves. The cult of the saint extends even throughout Europe where priories are founded in her name (wikipedia) Français en premier commentaire Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200

Thank you for providing the background info to this abbey. Some simply submit a photo with little to no information, making their submission of the photo virtually worthless. This is a super capture--the light is so beautiful. Although the church is lacking embellishment, such as stained glass, its simplicity only emphasizes how majestic it truly is.
