Description
I was able to drive the Caliente version while working at a dealership in the 60's. it had lots of power and could easily smoke the tires. it had the Ford version of posi-trac and to this day, I think the engine was stronger than stock. for fooling potential buyers into thinking it was really fast

Great photo. But the Mercury Comet and the Mercury Cougar are two separate vehicles. The Cougar, pictured here, is based on the mustang chassis and they were, potentially, very potent vehicles right out of the factory. The Mercury Comet was, Originally, based on the falcon chassis and had different power plants available and different underpinnings. The Mercury Comet "Caliente" was an options package that offered a V8 that put out as much as 270hp
The performance of both vehicles varied depending on option packages but during the "muscle car era" the Cougars and Mustangs were geared more toward performance and the Comet and Falcon tended more toward daily driver.

my association with 60's cars were more than 50 years ago and I have slept several times! thanks for the comment and information.
I know I liked Falcons and Comets both. would love to have a Falcon Ranchero 64 with a V8
