When it was build it wasn't called 'Napoleon' but fort Impérial. This is a Caponnière

Yes, when it was finely decided to restore the fort and making a museum over fortifications they had a lot of sand to move. The restoration took place from 1995 to 2000. I've know it longer as a ruin than a museum. And where i stood for taking the photograph, I'm in the line of fire of two Caponnières. The big openings you can see in the sides of the fort (called a tower fort) where made in the thirties when it was used as a local museum. It was used by the French, British, Dutch, Belgian and German armed forces.
