Description
Captured sometime in 2006. Don't see this phenomenon anymore, probably due to climate change. Thankfully I have several shots of these type clouds.
A mackerel sky is a common term for a sky with rows of cirrocumulus or altocumulus clouds displaying an undulating, rippling pattern similar in appearance to fish scales; this is caused by high altitude atmospheric waves. Also referred to as a buttermilk sky, especially in its early stages.
