Description
For this specific image I've decided to post on different date.
Well, another year has gone. Are you better? Are we all getting better? I do not think so!
The title of the artwork can be translated as: The Path to the Isle of the Dead. You can see the path and the planet Earth that is going there. And there is a reason about. The question at the beginning and the picture are strictly related.
On other occasions I have spoken about people, the human kind, and the dangerous choices we are making. But there is more: our choices also have consequences along the world - our only home, let's not forget it - where we live, and these turn back against us.
This is not new. I'm not the first and only one to say that. So why does the situation get worse with every passing year? Why do we continue to make mistakes?
Our politicians talk to us about the economy, enemies, security and more; THEY use the resources produced by OUR work for weapons, economic and social domination, to attack the planet in the frantic search for natural resources... and all this for what?
I repeat: Are you better? Are we all getting better? Year by year, the oligarchies are better, the rest of the world and the people, less. A singular incidence, too systematic, I think.
Why still believe their words? Why allow us to use OUR work for THEIR profit. Why can't our work ever make us all feel a little better?
Do you find it logical to pollute the land where we grow the food we eat and the waters we drink? And all this for profit? And of whom? Ours, certainly not! What will we feed our children: money? Yet we have less and less of it. We eat worse and at higher and higher costs. Ask yourselves that water comes into your house, remember the words of politicians, television and the neighbor, then And look your children in the face. What do you have to say at this point?
Everyone will say, but what can I do about it? We are all responsible for our choices, but they must be ours and aware of them. Forget to listen to the words of those who are better than you, the privileged ones who want to remain such. Choose and support only the choices that will make our children live better. Give them a better world.
Someone once said: Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed! And this one was not just anyone but Mahatma Gandhi (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahatma_Gandhi), however you think a man who has made history.
The world is not our private property. Whether you are religious or not, something or someone has given us life, has lent us the world to live on, but it is not our. The world was there before us and it will still be there when we will no longer be there. Then we have to pass it on to those who will come after us. And they will not thank us or love us for how we leave them!
Those who force us to do harm to ourselves, to our children, to the world, are just men, like us, not gods, they are few and must use social, economic and often even physical violence to do so. Remember it! It is not to them that we must obey and be responsible for what we do.
I believe that we have accumulated a heavy 'debt of the soul'. Those who have gone before us, have built with pain and effort, our so-called civilization. Those who come after us, will inherit a disfigured world and a degenerate civilization. What should Mother Nature or God (according to how you think about it) do about us at this point?
I do not have an answer to that. But I'm afraid of what it might be. I am a resolute person but I do not trample on the life and souls of others. Yet, around me, I keep seeing people who do it. And I wonder how they are not afraid of what will come, if we persevere.
Where is the world going and all of us?
Technical note. The Island of the Dead is a theme widely used in literature and art, starting with the famous painting by Arnold Böcklin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arnold_Böcklin and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isle_of_the_Dead_(painting)
I also wanted to do would be inspired. For my artwork I used a classic photograph of the Greek island of Pontikonisi (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontikonisi), which Böcklin himself would have inspired.

Nice image. If this is the Isle of the Dead, hey, it looks nice! One might have thought it's the isle of Avalon! :)
As I see it, perhaps we are now in what the Hindus would call the Kali Yuga, the Age of Darkness, when everything will go downhill. But the darkness will eventually end and a new dawn will come. In this I find solace...

Great concept and wonderful work!

Thank you for the wonderful image and wise words, as well as the link to Arnold Böcklin. I intend to investigate his works in more detail.

"Year by year, the oligarchies are better, the rest of the world and the people, less. A singular incidence, too systematic, I think." I strongly agree

That's true. Big part of the western culture is in crisis. But Europe and America have forgotten what made them great : Christianity, Roman Law and Greek Philosophy (matter of objective truth).
People novadays think everything is volatile, they deny God and they claim no truth exists. That's the main reason for the collapse..
If there's no transcendency explain, why the physics laws are the same every day ? ;)

Impressive artwork!!Beautiful image composition!!

Cool work.

Wonderful image and strongly agree with the sentiments expressed. We see a growing excess of 'greed is good' and selfishness today, spending less and less time on pondering the long term implications. Thoughtful and superbly presented work as always!

"Lies and Greed rule the world" is a line from a German song - and it is very true. Especially the fact that sheer greed is ruining everything. We used to say "it will all end in tears" ... and I wonder if we will still be here after another millennium - or indeed, after another hundred years. So many people walking down the street in a trance, their eyes glued to their smartphone and their thoughts occupied with social media trivia! "Waste not, want not" we said during the dark days of the war; that concept is needed more than ever today as we squander the Earth's resources and choke life with waste products.

Wonderful work and a very important message. Excellent done.

Wonderful Work! The script for this World, though, appears to have already been written and the actors are us. . . To change it all, we must be willing to rewrite the script for our own lives to create a better outcome for everyone. . .

This is a very well done, Mondwin :) I echo your sentiments about, well, practically all you've said. Right now the "disasterists" are heading Britain to a great big, dark right wing totalitarian hole. Not sure what the outcome will be, but it won't be good. Brexicide will not be painless :( But those that be will make tons of money out of it, same as always.

Certainly your words are well represented in this image ... then the pandemic arrived and perhaps something changed
