Description
[watercolor, acrylic, and watercolor pencil on Arches 200 lb cold-press]
This picture incorporates several moon goddess symbols used by various civilizations of old. (I've always been fascinated by really ancient things -- their aura is almost palpable -- and captivated by the beauty of the moon.) The large symbol in the center, made up of the ring and the base below, was used to represent the Sacred Moon Tree of Assyria. The symbols in the lower corners are an abstraction of a Phoenician stele representing the moon goddess in triune form (one aspect for each of the visible phases of the moon). The white lilies around the top of the picture also were associated with the moon goddess, though the origin is unclear. Nevertheless, in many cultures white lilies were moon flowers.
