Description
I closed my Face Book page last week. No one noticed. Seriously. Not a single person on my friends list has thus far mentioned my leaving. That says volumes about me, or them…or the whole FB premise that the “I” is more important than the “you”. In my world, everyone comes with a story….everyone. All I have to do is listen. In this virtual blip blop world, the only story that is important is the mine. Millions of one sided identities who strive for the biggest friends list or the Twitter tripe that garners the most quips. I keep asking, where is the story? Who are you., what are your dreams and horrors…..what makes you uniquely “you”. I don’t want to press some vague “likes” button. I don’t want to leave a 50 character comment. I want to discuss. I miss the old MSN groups (actually, they were originally called Communities) We talked, we played stupid games, and we talked. I am one of those people who say that change is the antithesis of decay, but some changes are the actual decay. When people stop talking to each other and focus solely on talking at each other, the humanity that makes us special is slowly but inevitably eroded away. It scares me. Perhaps I can say it better here…
The souls within their eyes do speak
Calling out to hear,
See the cry within my smile
Touch this heart of fear.
Find not fault with how I am
Understanding I do seek
I am angry, quiet, bold
Perhaps you find me meek.
Each comes with a story
Feelings, hurts and joys.
And, there is within each
The need to quiet noise.
I simply take what's given,
A spark within me lights.
A tiny piece of offered soul
I'll keep it safe -
And write.
Go talk to someone. Give a tiny piece of yourself, and then really, really listen to what they have to say.
Old writings, but I think there is still truth in them

I agree with you. The whole Facebook mania is ridiculous. People would rather sit and check their listings than talk to the person sitting with them. Most people have lost the art of holding a conversation face to face.

Wow what a powerful message, something everyone should read !
Perhaps one will see themself and reconsider what "Friend" means .
The icons are just that--- a icon--- not a loveing letter or telephone call.
All the hearts, likes, and happy faces in the world can't and wlill not replace a meaningful " I love you and miss you" like a personal call.
I'm with you all the way--we are on the same page and hopefully you don't shut yourself off
the Art Site.. You have some acquaintances that hold you close and dear to thier heart here..
This lady with her Burka and longdress has absolutely nothing to hide from the rest of us --- perhaps she is more faithful to her community than some others that hide under a false mask and live a pretentious lifestylye.
Fortunately for me their are a few groups on Facebook I can join. However they are not like the good old days of deep conversation, trust and fun like the communities of the past.
With this I'll end with its not only friends its Family Memebers as well that have succumbed to this horrid communication style.
A few years back I read on Facebook my daughter was in a car accident--- Go Figure....
Yes talk to me--- not at me..

Sorry to read that, they do care, sometimes it just takes people a little bit to notice. So many facebook friends, and people can go a week without posting sometimes. Hug

What is face book?
All I know is that I enjoy your art and writing that you post here very much! Otherwise I would never have had the chance to read your words or see your visions. I'm glad the universe has let our paths cross my friend. Would it cheer you up if I agree to be an official QuietRiot groupie?
See the cry within my smile, See the pain hidden in the sparkle, Of my distant and haunted eye. Feel six degrees of separation, Or maybe just one, Feel the pulse, Of an empty world.

Beautifully said my friend I hear you I closed down my FB account years ago and my twitter account just don't have the time to devote to it there's far too many incredible things more productive and worthwhile for me and my family to be pursuing anyway I suppose its a matter of choice nicely put my friend well done

While I am not on Twitter, I am on FB but hardly ever write anything. Last time I did I changed my profile pic!!! I am in a few closed groups which is good as we all talk & they are from the dog world. I never comment etc on political/religious things my friends write. I understand where you are coming from. x

I have FB only for 11 people (family and close friends). I delete my comments after 24h. I dont trust at all FB. They only want to make money on us.

Expecting some sort of intellectual exchange along with funny photos, I expectantly joined Facebook last April. Now I'm wondering why I even bothered. After all these months I can't strike up a sensible exchange with anyone, so I just visit there once in a while.

I have to say I have NEVER used face book nor would I! fabulous looking image

Well, I use facebook for my art, and have made some very good friends there but, having said that, I don't post much personal stuff on there, its a vehicle for what I do and if I want to talk to my friends their its usually done through messaging or on other forums. Most people don't want deep friendships, they are too much work (in my experience anyway) Facebook is a good way to get your art or whatever out there but I've never found it to be conducive to a deep relationship. Your poem and image are very much a good expression of what social media is.

I talk to my father (goodolboy) about this very issue. You brought out the TRUTH in your written context and is very accurate. I liked the poem. However, what you had written was more impressionable and powerful to me.

I have never been a member of any social media and only been on facebook 2-3 times using the membership of a friend. I do not have time to comment here as I would like to and using valuable time elsewhere is not in my calendar .
down right scary individual but I like her robe
