Description

Naufrage Since I'm also passionate by History, I sometimes like representing historical scenes. For this image, I used the DAZ 3 characters, more particularly the low resolution Michael two versions. I used several times the same character. My idea was to work against the light, and since some characters were furthermore meant to be far away, I only needed their shape or silhouette. Even if they were far away, I optimised carefully all the actions and details of the characters poses since, even things that do not appear on the image, I know that these details contribute to the final result. You always feel if it is not well done. It only took three hours to have everybody posed. Not so long! Once the characters were ready, I used Vue in order to place the ocean and the two boats. The big part of the job was to have a nice "burning boat". I probably tested all the Walther Beck "Firebugs" effects. I also worked on clouds, adjusting the textures for a few of them... As you can see on the impressive layer two object list! The development of the lights was faster. I wanted an additional light on the exploding boat and a backlight which would shade the sea in a different way. I used a red/orange spot of light to achieve this effect. For the boat, I used a quadratic light. After testing a few configuration in order to find nice light sets, I just had to launch the render... and wait! I was not satisfied by the final render, which looked like an incomplete work. I felt it was important to add small details and "dirt" to this image. I also felt that adding a rain mask would increase the dramatic intensity of the scene. That's what I did during the postwork steps on photoshop : adding a rain layer and optimise all the final settings and details. I hope you liked it !

Very nice indeed, but feels incomplete perhaps because sailing ship doesn't have enough visual weight to carry it's side of the visual 'V' you've created. Perhaps darken the hull at bit and light/dark the sails more dramatically to create visual momentum and balance.
