I'm just your boring average ex-account who wasted a lot of his youth playing fantasy RPGs (Role-Playing Games), specifically Dungeons & Dragons and Stormbringer/Elric, originally for outside Philadelphia PA who turned to computer graphics as an artistic outlet. I spent 30 years from the mid 80's to late 2012 living in Palm Beach County FL (North Palm Beach to be specific), working for not-for-profits in the social service and health care arena, but suffered a health crisis due to undiagnosed diabetes which had me in the hospital for 5 months, cost me part of my left foot, and has taken several years to recover from. I now live in Milford DE to be near family. My diabetes has left me with advanced renal disease, forced me to start dialysis, which I can fortunately do at home, but has me locked up for an hour four times a day (which allows me plenty of time to keep up on my gallery comments), but I still have a fair amount of independence and my health issues aren't nearly as bad or inconvenient as many others are. Most of my work is inspired by those fantasy RPG campaigns I wasted a lot of my youth on. I tend to post series of images with rather lengthy narratives that add up to short stories, or chapters in on-going tales. Thank you for your interest and attention!
Update:
Due to a very seriously broken ankle and shin I've been stuck in a wheelchair for over a year with an external fixator on my right leg, but I'm still managing to get by on my own.

Thanks... Unfortunately I don't have any faith in HP anymore... 2 crashes in 1 year... Last time I lost everything and had to reload all my programs and data files... This time if I have to send it back to HP and the don't restore my data I'm sending them the bill to replace it all!
moebiustraveller
Damn, Zaq... not good :( Hope to see you back soon :)

Thanks for your kind thoughts!

Been there, but with a Mac, fortunately you can have a copy of all the folders on a small drive and just copy across, not sure if you can do the same with a PC tho... commiserations
zaqxsw
To my knowledge you can't backup the program folders so the programs and data files can't be backed up!

You can copy everything on your hard drive as a backup. Unfortunately, it doesn't help with the registry. That doesn't seem to copy well. Hope things go smoother this time. And you might think about starting to save for a non-hp computer.
zaqxsw
Actually I'm planning to demand a refund a refund from HP... If the thing crashed twice in a year it's obviously a lemon!
TwiztidKidd
At first glance it does look like the harddrive installed inside stopped functioning... and it's most likely a mechanical harddrive: western digital or seagate or whatever is cheapest. I wish you knew more about computers so these HP people won't take advantage of you, my friend. You could ask for a SSD drive upgrade (256 Gb would be okay) and keep mentioning that is not your fault their components inside the HP computer are failing. Best of luck!

Thanks for the info!

Ditto for Gateway.

I'm sorry to hear about your computer problems. I hope that it'll get worked out and you'll be back to posting soon.

Thanks!

I understand what you are feeling and I hope you'll find a better bike! (we use that word in France to say "computer" )
zaqxsw
Thanks... Right now I have a few "choice" words to use instead of "computer", but I don't think the censors would approve!

Could it be that the computer needs more air? Perhaps an upgrade for some decent fans which is relatively inexpensive. Please recall, that during renders the processors are working their socks off and you should hear the internal fan whirring away like a nightime Police helicopter! lol
I'm disappointed about HP's response to this so I think you need to go higher and perhaps achieve a really good outcome!
zaqxsw
Thanks for the suggestion... But the problem occurred as I was booking up for a cold start, so I don't see how overheating could be the cause. As for upgrading... Believe me I intend to!

I'm so sorry to hear that. I hope your problems can be rectified very soon.

OMG - THAT A REAL PITA - GOOD LUCK!

Thanks!
Rather than dealing with Hopeless Products (i.e. HP) again I decided to take my PC in to a local shop I trust and they told me the drive is "deader than dead"... Meaning they can't even get it to read... So rather than continue this cycle of having it drop dead on me ever six months I'm upgrading to a solid state drive and they are also installing a backup program that can completely mirror my drive onto my external drive so I should never have to reload everything again... Unfortunately that does mean that I will have to reload everything this time, which took three months last time and I lost dozens of older products that weren't available any more... Repurchaing things that I couldn't reinstall and upgrading programs that weren't supported anymore cost me over $1,000.00!
bucyjoe
good luck hope to see you post as soon as your ready
zaqxsw
Thanks!
anitalee
Oh no!
zaqxsw
Yes... I'm afraid Hopeless Products (i.e. HP) has completely screwed me again! I should have the computer back for the local repair shop soon, but since it took me three months to reinstall everything last time, and I lost dozens of older products which were no longer available from both here and Daz3d, there's no telling when I might be able to start posting again.

I always found the printers really bad, with only one color cartridge, which costs half a fortune ... I'm really sorry that you got such a lousy PC. If you have so much trouble with it, I can only warmly recommend that you buy another computer. I had one myself configured and assembled according to my needs. And that was not necessarily very expensive.
zaqxsw
Thanks... Believe me I've seriously considered it... Rather than let HP screw with it again I had a local shop I trust replace the drive with a solid state drive and install backup software that completely mirrors my hard drive onto my external drive so if it crashes again I will not loose anything... I've been able to reinstall Poser, Microsoft Office and Print shop already, and I've started downloading all my purchased content from Daz3d, but it's likely to take all day today and most of tomorrow. Then I have to do the same thing for everything from here, Xurge3d and a few other vendors... Unfortunately most of the stuff I bought from RDNA is gone since Daz3d doesn't support it anymore.

All computers crash and have issues from time to time, drives mostly, had a few brands, Dell, HP, and some other computer, dont recall, All have crashed.
zaqxsw
Yeah, computers crash... It happens... My issue is a new computer crashing less than 6 months after purchase and again less than 6 months later plus the loss of all my data both times... To me that says either it wasn't built right, it wasn't fixed right or it's just a lemon!
Kratoonz
Damn. Hope you get back up soon. Good luck.
zaqxsw
Thanks... I was able to get everything back from Daz3d faster thann I thought since their "download manager" let's you do it in bulk... Unfortunately I have to go file by file downloaded and unzipping for everything here... Which mean being chained to the computer for hours on end.
Richardphotos
both of my desktops are HP and the newest one has not give me any big problems, but on any brand crap can happen.
I backup my runtime regularly so it is a matter of copying and pasting
zaqxsw
Yeah... It seems like nothing is built with any quality any more! I had tried to backup all my content but the programs I had wouldn't recognize those files... The new program I have now creates a complete mirror image of the drive to my external drive and I have it set to do it every day!
Axeye
Please back up your important files once you get things in order. Good Luck!
zaqxsw
Thanks... Yeah... Learned that lesson! Fortunately I did back up all my documents daily so I didn't lose anything I've already done.
shadownet
Yeah, I think all of us learn the importance of a good backup plan the hard way. :)
zaqxsw
Yes we do!

That sucks

Sorry to hear about your problems. Hope you get it fixed, and are back up and running again soon.
zaqxsw
Thank you for your concern... I was able to get the problem fixed but lost quite a bit of the products I had purchased for sites like RuntimeDNA that I can't recover.

That is why I tell everyone that it is important to have backup copies of all data so that you do not regret later in such cases. I had other problems at work, I communicated with potential customers via outlook mail, but then it was hacked and all data was erased. I didn't actually keep a backup. Because I then had to look for everyone again and I found only half. But for that I learned a lesson for the future and now I just use backup onedrive for business and they helped me with this right here. So I hope it will be useful for you too.
zaqxsw
Thanks for your comment and interest. This happened 4 years ago, and since then I started using multiple back-up systems in different locations as well as backing up my data-files to an external hard-drive all using automated processes on staggered schedules. I've also reorganized my data so that it's not in the program files with the actual programs like it used to be, instead I moved them to the same folder that holds all the other document, so the back-up systems treat them like just any other document. To avoid the issue of being hacked, I also employ a couple of firewall programs from different companies.
