Description

- I decided to add some more volumetric light effect, this time the "easy" way, in Photoshop - as well as some filtering. It is more of what I was after this time. (I've removed the first version). *********** Bryce 5, grass made in Bantam3D, about 45 trees from Bryce tree lab, my own design. Textures also "tweaked" by me. One cone spotlight for volume light effect. - And yes, soft shadows would still be great, but it's too hard a render right now, maybe later ;o) Thanks for viewing, comments welcome.

Very well done! Looks very quiet and still and reminds me of treks I've taken through the forest. 45 trees in the scene must have really slowed your computer down!

Really nice. I like the texture on the tree in the foreground. Has an "oil painting" feel to it. Well done.

Very photo-realistic look. Putting a deer back in the trees would be really cool. Nice work...

OutSTANDing! Great work! I thought it would have been a different application. Was very happy to see it was Bryce.

Thank you, all, for your very kind words. --- For "vaha" (and everyone else interested) some notes on the technique etc.: The entire work took about 4 hrs. to complete, incl. many patch renders to check some textures, positioning etc. The render was a little heavy, due to the volumetric light: 3,5 hrs. (render options were with standard antialiasing, and NO gamma correction). File size 24,3 mb. By far the most complicated thing in this work was the volume light, in the end, I managed to get some OK lightstreaks (but nevertheless, I wasn't too satisfied, that's why I reworked it). --- The large trunks are actually a terrain, where I've placed a tree inside a few of them - for instance you can see some roots sticking out on one in the upper left area. I knew this could happen, but I decided that they looked like branches, alternatively I could have scaled the tree down a bit. The other trees are Bryce trees, designed in the tree lab, 10 - 15 min. of tweaking until I got it "right". --- In my experience, Bryce trees are not that "power-consuming", and my computer is NOT a powerful one. Unless I "overdo" the complexity, I can easily handle, say 60 - 80 trees, before my computer starts to drag. --- The postwork in Photoshop was: 1) Blending the snow a bit up on some of the trunks (rubberstamp). 2) "Unsharp Mask" to kill some of the Bryce antialiasing. 3) Adding extra volumetric effect by using a lens flare. 4) On a duplicate layer, I used "gaussian blur" at a high setting, then blended this layer with "lighten" blendmode, opacity set to 50% - all of this to achieve a soft appearance. Then I flattened the image, saved and exported for web... this postwork took about 20 min. - much faster than tweaking the volume light some more and then render again! I still consider this a true Bryce render, as the postwork was mainly to enhance what was there in the first place - except the snow-work on the trunks, that's a little cheating ;o) I hope you find this note useful. Thanks again for your attention to my work.

excellent!!! keeping the crisp shadows was a perfect idea. Gives it a cold, but windless and bright sun feel. the trees are exceptional!
