Description

In Scottish folklore, the BROLLACHAN is a creature that haunts dark, deserted places, especially ones with large bodies of water, and is said to appear as a dark, shapeless 'cloud' with a pair of reddish, glowing eyes. It is said to be the larval form of a species of faery called the 'Fuath', and likes to gain possession of the bodies of men and animals, especially children, draining them slowly of their life force and then leaving the host a dry, lifeless husk as it searches for new prey. The Brollachan can talk, but is said to know only two words: 'me' and 'you'. Here I let my imagination run wild in portraying this creature and sketching out a place where you might spot it. :) Haven't been doing any freehand drawing for a long time so I just thought I'd give it a shot; the result is this sketch, which I did in a couple hours one evening early in September. Suggestions for improvement, please, anyone?

Like anything in life, the more you do something, the better you get at it. I like your sketch and would encourage you to just keep on doing what you're doing. You WILL find your own rhythm and style. 😀

Awesome job! I love the story, too. My only suggestion is to make the lines inside the edge of the cloud a little less sharp.

This is wonderful, my friend! Oh, my.... It has been so long since I've picked up a pencil and (actual) paper, and just had fun sketching.... This inspires me to get back to this traditional medium once in a while.

Fascinating information as well - I was not aware of this legend.

What a weird creature. I like the contrast between the curves and white spaces in the brollachan and the straight lines everywhere else. It really helps convey the sense of an unworldly encounter.

I'd never heard about this feature of Scottish legends, even though I've been to Scotland several times ! Your illustration and drawing is simply excellent and I hope to see more of your own compositions in 2019 !
