Description

As I said the girls had a weekend of lovely walks in the woods. I really would love them to run free in the woods but there are too many temptations & if I don't know the place, they stay on long leather leads (not retractable ones I hasten to add). The girls are usually very good as I can read them & know if something is about & get them back. They can easily get lost in the undergrowth & travel far in a short time. I don't care how well trained a dog is there is always that time when something could go wrong. I am also NOT prepared to use an electric collar on my girls, they are my friends. Thankfully they are getting banned here. I would rather take them for an extra long walk on the lead. Thanks for all the lovely comments & favs, so, so appreciated. x

They look like they had a good workout...Truly has the longest tongue :) And there's that green tree again.

I agree with you about leads. Some folks seem to think because their dog is well trained and they have complete control over the dog--I tell them that no matter how well trained their dog is, a dog is first a dog, and it only takes a second for them to get distracted and to do something "dangerous" to them or others. That's why keeping them on a lead most of the time, and only off a lead when and where appropriate, should be the rule. Here in NYC it's the law. Furthermore, a law exists that dogs should be muzzled--I very rarely see a muzzled dog, and, if so, the dog is of a usually aggressive breed.

WE used to walk our English Pointer and our Great Dane on long leads when we went out in the pasture. They would find something to get excited about and end up in the next county. (that only happened once) It's a good way to get your pet shot by a rancher who thinks they are part of a wild pack. So many people move to the country and think they can just let their animals run loose without concern for other people. It always ends badly. So good for you for being responsible and loving!
