Il se nourrit principalement de rongeurs de grande taille comme l'agouti, le capybara mais consomme également des oiseaux, des amphibiens et de petits reptiles. l n'est pas autorisé à la chasse ni au commerce et bénéficie d'une protection totale. L'UICN le classe comme animal vulnérable en raison de la destruction de son habitat et de l'isolement de ses zones de répartition. It feeds mainly on large rodents such as agouti, capybara but also consumes birds, amphibians and small reptiles. It is not allowed to hunt or trade and enjoys full protection. IUCN classifies it as a vulnerable animal due to the destruction of its habitat and the isolation of its distribution areas.
