this story predates Nikki Mendez-William's story in Family (posted here) It was the early 90's and DOMA, Department of Magical Affairs, was brimming with talent four years after the Hellgate had claimed New York City and magical beings with malicious intent were popping up all around the world. Nikki Mendez (who at that time was called Nikki Wonder) was paired with DOMA's top agent, Clarence Brown also known as Alpha. Alpha came from a family that had practiced magic in secret long before the Hellgate and specialized in techno magic, the ability to combine magic and technology, in short a modern day alchemist (although he hated that description). He created a suit of armor that would increase his strength ten times as well as a weapon that could fire a variety of magical spells. He spent four years making the pair and when he was recruited by DOMA, he quickly became their go-to-guy and best trainer. He not only trained Nikki but also her future husband Marcus Williams who was his prize pupil. Despite his size and reputation, Alpha was the kind of take charge guy that could handle any situation that is except ask Nikki out. The pair had an obvious attraction and many opportunities to express them, but the big guy always fell short and eventually Marcus would end up dating and later on marrying Nikki. He was best man at their wedding and god-father to both Alexander and Alexandria. Alpha eventually married Jenny Smith (aka Jenny Spartan) after Nikki hooked the pair up but when she was lost in battle, he quit DOMA just a few years shy of them disbanding all of their field agents and suggested to Nikki that she change her call sign from Nikki Wonder (based on her favorite comic heroine) to Nikki Spartan. Eventually going into private practice, he was still a top choice for the new streamlined DOMA to handle the shrinking amount of magical threats and from time to time would be paired with Nikki and/or her husband Marcus.
