Description

Like reducer gear housings and HP steam lines, etc. This is where the docent told us that the temperature was often 110 - 120 F when the ship was underway. However, it was not often that crew had to work in here. There was a lot of automation, but it still takes a human to whack whiney equipment alongside the casing. The big bucks come from knowing how hard, when, and what casing. For some reason, the phrase "nukes, spooks, and forward pukes" is running thru my brain. I seem to recall there was some tension between the people involved with the new tech vs. the old tech. Jeeze guys, it's still just hot water. (DUCK!) You are probably noticing that we are being watched. Another tour is making its way through the observation walk above us. Intimidating having to deal with this. They have a quarter of a reduction gear on the pier alongside the ship. It's big. Apparently it was removed from SAVANNAH to repair a more traditional vessel and then returned for display. Enjoy; thanks for viewing.
