Description

From the platform on top of the Naval Guards' quarters in the after deckhouse. The port-a-potties/port-a-loos are for visitors. Not sure what condition the plumbing is in onboard, but this is probably most convenient as a living museum. On the horizon, about a mile off, we see Locust Point. The clump of trees to the left starts the Fort McHenry National Monument grounds and the tall building just to the right of the ship's superstructure is the Locust Point development. Luxury condos, etc. which were developed from the grain silos which may still be in there. We did a tour of that area some years back. The brick building to the right of the clump of trees used to be a Naval Reserve Center where I spent a number of hours and just over it, actually on the other side of Locust Point, is a cruise ship docked at the Baltimore passenger terminal not far from Port Covington area. We are standing on a platform which is roughly T-shaped on top of the NG quarters. The base of the T is the gun tub for the 5"/38 main gun and each arm of the T holds a gun tub for a 3"/50. Both are dual-purpose guns: air and surface targets. You can see the after 20 mm Oerlikon gun tubs on the corners of the superstructure and the edges of two additional 20 mm gun tubs between us and the superstructure. Enjoy; thanks for viewing.
