Not sure they figured out how to train the gun, but I was impressed by how easily they were able to get it moving. BROWN has these two aft and one forward. I believe the forward one has been modified to be a big noisemaker... some of the 20 mm Oerlikons are also so converted. They "fire" blanks of kerosene vapor when the ship comes under "enemy" attack on the heritage cruises. Anyhow, the presence of these guns are a major reason for having regular navy aboard... they also had signalmen and radiomen to facilitate intra-convoy communications. Time to move on. The reason for this visit was a flyer I received in the mail: For a decent amount one could board the BROWN and get a front seat for the FLEET WEEK air show. Sounded good. I'm guessing about 100 folks took advantage of this but the weather drew a real vacuum. Heavy overcast. So, I decided this was also a good chance to tour the ship without the other 900 or so I encountered last time aboard. Enjoy; thanks for viewing.
