Lovely. I guess it is something to do with raw power of the ocean.

Because back then "old dudes" where the rulers of everything... Zeus, ruler of the gods and the skies. Hades, ruler of the underworld. Goddess like Athena, Aphrodite, Artemis and even Hera didn't rule a domain... What can you say... The ancient Greeks where chauvinist! Fantastic image!

your right of course, ……. still think it should be female
life giving, beautiful, dangous

It may have to do with the fact that among the primordial Greek deities, the sea was male (Pontus) and earth was female (Gaia) ...
ALso, there is Tethys, the Titan of the primal font of water which nourishes the earth, mother of the Potamoi (Rivers), the Okeanides (Oceanids), and the Nephelai (Clouds). The Titans preceeeded the Olympian gods (actually Tethys is Zeus' aunt) by whom they were displaced.. Her name came to mean the Sea and the primeaval world oceean is known as Tethys, so I think she rather trumps Poseidon who only got an asteriod and various (ofetn ill-fated) ships named after him ;)
In any case, nice render! :)

that is a wicked cool comment, I bet I could Bing a couple of those pre Olympus gods/titans and find a render

Apart from the already mentioned, to populate anything Mr. Poseidon should have a Mrs. Poseidon anyway. And if he was really the old chap from the pictures we know, he was a lucky and probably stressed man. laughs

I see the logic of man (terrestrial) farmer, would gender earth as life giving, and water the opposite must be male. Stressed… all us old bucks want some, lucky/stress
