Description

Part of the ramparts and Fort Liberia Villefranche was founded by a charter granted by the count of Cerdagne Guillem Ramon April 9, 1091 The count wanted to make Villefranche the new capital of the Conflent. The city is then under Spanish rule.   The city is besieged and taken by the French in 1654 The construction of new fortifications is undertaken from the plans of Vauban in 1669, who visits the site ten years later. Fort Liberia is then built on the mountainside, overlooking the city to the north. Work continues throughout the eighteenth century. Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200

really like the lighting in this one, and how the composition leads the eye to the fort on the hillside, very nicely composed

I'm always amazed at the locations of these beautiful structures. And how difficult it must have been to build them! Gorgeous image!
