Description
The Fiat g-55 "Centauro" was one of the best fighters produced by Fiat during WWII. The G-55 was one of the fighters of the Aeronautica Nazionale Republicana and the Aeronautica Regia that overcame their generally underpowered offerings by utilizing the Italian production variant of the Daimler Benz DB605, the same powerplant used by the Germans in the BF-109G. The Luftwaffe showed considerable interest in the craft as a result of very favorable flight tests, but by the end of the war, only 300 units were built of the initial 2,400 production units orfered. The Centauro was very well liked among the Italian pilots and performed very well against the Supermarine Spitfire, P-51 Mustang, P-38 Lightning, and the P-47 Thunderbolt.
Say what you will about performance, the Fiats and Macchi's were beautiful looking aircraft! SOme of my favorites.
I've been working at doing these renders in Daz Studio, no mean feat after somewhat mastering doing aicraft renders in Vue after many years of effort. I'm getting a bit of a hang of it. I like this one.

Beautiful render!
Though I'm well into knowing a lot of WWII aircrafts - even the less famous ones, the Fiat G-55 didn't really catch my attention very much until now. Probably because of their few builds? Anyway, thanks for recalling this nice fighters to my awareness.
