Streetcar In The Rain by KatesFriend

Happy New Year everyone! As I related in my last posting, I am still in the process of rebuilding my rendering computer. And the holidays have kept me extraordinarily busy. But, I did get a new TV for the living room this year which is really nice. Thus I have resorted to raiding my photo gallery for this New Years Eve. I took this shot a few weeks ago. This is Queen Street West in Toronto - just to the west of Yonge Street - looking east. I took it from the covered walkway which bridges the Toronto Eaton Centre with the Simpson's Building. The two buildings stand for Canadian store chains which no longer exist. Eaton's went bankrupt in 1997 and was bought out by Sears Canada. Sears relaunched some of the chain as the "new" Eaton's but that was all absorbed into Sears by 2002, Eaton's was no more just as Sears is now - isn't it ironic?1 On the other side, Simpson's was bought by the Hudson's Bay Company in 1978 which ran the chain as a separate entity until 1991 - then all Simpson's stores became part of 'The Bay'. Now the Simpson's building is shared between the Hudson's Bay Company and Sak's Fifth Avenue. Sak's, an American chain, is also owned by The Bay these days - isn't it ironic?1 Alas, I did not capture vehicle number of the CLRV2 passing beneath the bridge. She is running on the Queen Line (Route 501) westbound to the Humber Loop. The Queen Line's actual western terminus is in Long Branch - near to the city limits of Toronto on Lakeshore Boulevard - however many cars reverse course at Humber just to the west of Roncesvalles Avenue. Oh, I love run-on sentences. And I love the rain effect in this picture, the distorting and highlighting of light in this dusky street scene. As gloomy as the moment might initially seem, everything is washed clean and displaying their sharpest colours. Even the livery of the concrete looks good. The Chinese say it brings good luck, good luck for this coming New Year. . All my best to all my friends here at Renderosity. Cheers!

Happy New Year, Clayton. Really like this photo--has an Impressionist feel. As for the retail store history, it reminds me of musical chairs...

I absolutely love shots like this! This is really wonderful!
I don't make many 'resolutions' for the new year, but one thing I do intend to do is get back into photography a whole lot more this year. It's kind of taken a back-seat to my 3D stuff the last few years, but playing around with Lightroom has awoken the photo bug again.
I have a good friend that works at Sears here... He does some construction/renovation work on the side as well. Looks like he's going to need that side job full time soon. Sears is just about done... I'm afraid they'll soon be a memory, just like Montgomery Wards.
Happy New Year to you and yours! May 2019 bring you all the best!
