Montage of three pictures of ancient statues of the Virgin Mary polychrome wood
Whether one is a believer or not, it does not matter, everyone has the right to respond in his own way to the mystery of our lives. But I am still deeply touched to see the artworks created by our ancestors almost 1000 years ago, whether in wood or in stone.
Que l'on soit croyant ou non, peu importe, chacun a le droit de répondre à sa façon au mystère de nos vies. Mais je suis toujours profondément touché de voir les oeuvres créées par nos ancêtres il y a près de 1000 ans, que ce soit dans le bois ou dans la pierre.

Je suis complètement d'accord avec toi, même si l'on n'est pas croyant, c'est tout de même notre histoire et nos ancêtres qui ont travaillé avec ferveur sur toutes ces sculptures, peintures et architectures qui ont traversé les siècles pour nous parler de leurs vies, merci de nous faire partager cela JC !!

Ces trois statues polychromes sont absolument splendides, et ton montage les met super bien en valeur, j'aime notamment celle du milieu..........magnifiques prises de vues qui génèrent de l'émotion, Jean-Claude !

I like the 12th century, where you see the handcraft and the impossible to do, although the other figures are for their time leading. In the 15th century you see the influence of the crown. Final the 13th century where the headdress and the stars in the cloths are leading. The virgin was seen as a star. I hope you like this virgin too that is wood crafted in Maastricht

I am not the least bit religious, but do appreciate religious architecture, music and icons. These statues are amazing and to think they have held up so well over the centuries...interesting to see how the attire changed over the centuries...thanks for the share :)

Ces 3 statues montrent une différence de style d'un siècle à l'autre : celle du 12ème est de facture plus archaïque, plus compacte et hiératique, un peu figée dans le mouvement ; au siècle suivant, le mouvement est mieux dessiné et les décorations plus présentes ; celle du 15ème semble être un assemblage : la chaise et les personnages ne semblent pas dus au même auteur ; ils ne sont pas d'aussi bonne facture, d'ailleurs, que ceux du 13ème siècle !
