Description

Here's another leg example. Again, the leg closest the camera is extended. (I've heard this "rule" came from the early days of swimsuit photography. The leg was bent so to cover the crotch. I don't know if this is true, but I've tried both ways, and closest leg forward looks the best 99.9% of the time.) And, here's a backstory to this location... After taking a few photographs I went to sit down in this plaza and the chair slipped from underneath me. (It was an odd design for a chair with an off-center center of gravity.) As I'm laying on the ground, a security guard comes out of his hole and announces that we cannot take photographs in the plaza. (Never mind asking, "Are you okay sir? Are you hurt?") He was concerned about our cameras than he was my physical wellbeing. The other two photographers on the shoot came and helped me to my feet, and never once did the security guard ask about my wellbeing. I commented back, "Isn't this a public plaza, required by law, for the general public to use?" He stammered and said, "We can't have any of our clients in your pictures." Again, pointing to our model, I said, "That's not an issue. We're only photographing her." "Well, you might make our client's nervous," he then said. Another photographer responded, "Well, let's not stick around to see what type of clientele this business attracts if their clients get nervous when they see cameras." Needless to say, given my disability I'll probably never visit NYC again. While there is cool stuff to see in NYC, it is one of the most authoritarian cities when it comes to people with cameras.
